Bulleit Straight Bourbon Whiskey is THE original family recipe that built the Bulleit name.

Tom Bulleit comes from a family steeped in distilling fine Spirits. He set out to make his own mark in 1987 when he launched Bulleit Frontier Whiskey by reviving the old family recipe — Bulleit Bourbon — with a high-rye mash bill and a ton of attitude. Today they are a part of the Diageo portfolio producing a range of four Bourbons and one Rye Whiskey that have become the Spirits of choice for discriminating cocktail drinkers around the world.

Bulleit Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the foundation upon which Bulliet was built, using the famous family recipe. That means the mash bill consists of 68% corn, 28% rye, and 4% malted barley. It is made from pure Kentucky limestone-filtered water and locally sourced ingredients. There are no wheat or grain fillers, and every percentage point of that mix serves a specific purpose. The corn makes it sweet and savory, the rye adds some spice and body, and that dash of barley makes the yeast happy by goosing the fermenting process. Aged in charred new American white oak barrels and bottled at 45% ABV, this stuff is truly wonderful, winning Double Gold medals, "Best Straight Bourbon," and many more accolades.

A good mixer, but lacks some of the needed complexity to make some of the classics taste really good. Just a good basic bourbon.

Amazing as a mixer, it's my go-to. Plus I have done several blind old fashioned tastings and 80% of time time this one comes out as number one. As a result, I've almost condemned it to just a mixer, but every once in a while I'll have it neat against other whiskeys, such as Maker's Mark, and for my palate, I prefer this one. I love the baking spice notes from that high-rye content. Ordered it at a bar once on the rocks (the only affordable, decent drink I could get as a whiskey drinker) and it stood up. I've never had a bad experience with it.
